Google Career Certificate Scholarship Policy

Purpose

LaunchWorks distributes Google Career Certificate scholarships provided by Google to help individuals develop practical, career-relevant digital and technology skills, explore career opportunities, and strengthen their ability to pursue employment, advancement, or further education. The scholarship helps offset the Coursera enrollment or access fees required to participate in an eligible Google Career Certificate program.

Scholarship Distribution

LaunchWorks distributes a limited number of Google Career Certificate scholarships through two types of consideration: need-based and merit-based. Applicants must also meet any applicable requirements established by Google and Coursera.

• Need-Based Scholarship

Anyone who demonstrates financial need based on income level may apply for a need-based scholarship.

Applicants must provide documentation showing eligibility for a government-approved financial assistance or financial aid program. Examples may include documentation related to public assistance, education financial aid, income-based benefits, or another government-administered program that verifies financial need.

• Merit-Based Scholarship

Anyone with a strong desire to improve their skills, develop new capabilities, or explore a different career path may apply for a merit-based scholarship.

Applicants must submit a one- to two-page essay describing their goals, why they are interested in the selected Google Career Certificate, and their plan for completing the certificate or developing the skills covered by the program.

Academic grades, degrees, prior professional experience, and previous technology experience are not required for merit-based consideration.

Scholarship awards are subject to availability, and LaunchWorks retains discretion in selecting recipients when the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of scholarships available.

Participant Responsibilities

Scholarship recipients are expected to actively participate in their Google Career Certificate program or other learning program.  It is required to make reasonable and consistent progress in utilizing the resource.

Recipients are expected to:

• Activate the required account and enroll in learning within a reasonable timeframe;

• Participate regularly in the enrolled coursework;

• Make reasonable progress toward completing the certificate or learning;

• Respond to reasonable communications and progress reminders from LaunchWorks;

• Notify LaunchWorks if circumstances prevent continued participation; and

• Participate in reasonable surveys, progress check-ins, mentoring, or career-development activities when requested or offered by LaunchWorks.

LaunchWorks understands that work, school, family, and other responsibilities may occasionally affect a participant's progress. Participants are encouraged to communicate with LaunchWorks when circumstances temporarily prevent participation.

Inactivity and Scholarship Termination

Google Career Certificate scholarships are limited resources intended for individuals who are actively using the opportunity.

If a scholarship recipient shows no coursework activity or meaningful progress for more than 21 consecutive days, LaunchWorks may send reminders or other communications requesting that the recipient resume participation or contact LaunchWorks regarding their circumstances.

LaunchWorks retains the right, at its discretion, to terminate or reassign a scholarship after more than 21 days of inactivity or lack of progress. A terminated scholarship may be reassigned to another eligible applicant.

LaunchWorks may consider information provided by the recipient regarding temporary circumstances before making a termination decision, but continued scholarship access is not guaranteed.
